Growth Projection
Method and scope
The initial balance compounds monthly at the entered nominal annual rate divided by 12. New contributions arrive at the end of each month. The savings-goal tool solves the same model for the monthly contribution, with a zero-rate limit. Taxes, charges and changing rates are excluded. Enter an assumed rate; investment growth is not guaranteed.
Using this calculator in Malaysia
Figures are shown in MYR for Malaysia; selecting another country does not convert an existing investment. Contributions arrive at month end. The entered return is an assumption, not a live local savings rate or a guaranteed investment return. Local tax allowances, account wrappers and charges are not modelled.
Try the starting example
Current balance: RM 10,000; Target balance: RM 50,000; Assumed annual return (nominal): 5%; Years to goal: 10.
Monthly saving required: RM 215.93.
Compare one assumption at a time
A deadline changes the monthly saving required. A longer horizon also gives the assumed growth more time to contribute. If the payment is unaffordable, compare a smaller target or later deadline rather than assuming a higher return will occur. These fictional scenarios use the starting inputs printed above, not your current entries in the interactive calculator.
| Years to goal | Monthly saving required | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | RM 252.36 | One changed input |
| 10 | RM 215.93 | Starting example |
| 11 | RM 186.25 | One changed input |
Are you using chargeable income and regular EPF wages correctly?
The income-tax tool uses chargeable income after reliefs for its supported assessment year. EPF instead uses regular monthly wages within its supported age and wage range. Official contribution bands can produce a step change at a wage boundary, so multiplying salary by a percentage can disagree with the displayed contribution.
To reproduce the table, reset the calculator, change only the named input and compare the result and any warning. Record the assumptions with your result. See worked planning examples and our calculation and correction process.
