Method and scope
South African 2027 tax year: 1 March 2026 to 28 February 2027. Annualised regular salary is treated as taxable income, with the selected age rebates. PAYE is annual income tax divided by 12; the monthly pay estimate also subtracts employee UIF at 1% up to R17,712 monthly earnings. Assumes UIF-liable employment. Pension deductions, medical tax credits, benefits-in-kind, bonuses, directives, irregular pay, additional income and other deductions are excluded. It is an annualised estimate, not an employer payroll calculation.
Try the starting example
Annual regular taxable salary before PAYE/UIF (no pension deductions): R 360 000; Age at the end of the tax year: Under 65.
Estimated income tax: R 56 172,00.
Compare one assumption at a time
Compare the change in estimated tax with the change in entered income. The effective rate on the whole income and the tax on an additional amount are different measures. Only the supported tax components are shown; this table does not expand the scope into a full return or payslip. These fictional scenarios use the starting inputs printed above, not your current entries in the interactive calculator.
| Annual regular taxable salary before PAYE/UIF (no pension deductions) | Estimated income tax | Interpretation |

Is the retirement contribution affordable from your actual monthly pay?
The PAYE estimate includes the selected age rebate and capped employee UIF, but excludes other payroll deductions. The retirement tool uses a separate qualifying deduction base and illustrates a ceiling, not an automatic refund. Check the employer contribution and deduction base before comparing retirement scenarios.
