Method and scope
2026–27 New Zealand resident individual income tax using the bands effective from 1 April 2025. Enter annual taxable income after deductions. Excludes ACC earners levy, Independent Earner Tax Credit and other credits, student loans, KiwiSaver deductions, Working for Families and special/non-resident rules. This is income tax before credits, not PAYE or net salary.
Try the starting example
Annual taxable income after deductions: $60,000.
Estimated income tax: $10,220.50.
Compare one assumption at a time
Compare the change in estimated tax with the change in entered income. The effective rate on the whole income and the tax on an additional amount are different measures. Only the supported tax components are shown; this table does not expand the scope into a full return or payslip. These fictional scenarios use the starting inputs printed above, not your current entries in the interactive calculator.
| Annual taxable income after deductions | Estimated income tax | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| $54,000 | $8,420.50 | One changed input |
| $60,000 | $10,220.50 | Starting example |
| $66,000 | $12,020.50 | One changed input |
Have you separated contributions from the return assumption?
The KiwiSaver model separates employee, employer and eligible government contributions, including its stated rate transition. Do not replace those contributions with the assumed investment return. Compare employer amounts after the selected ESCT treatment and check the government eligibility choice before interpreting the balance.
To reproduce the table, reset the calculator, change only the named input and compare the result and any warning. Record the assumptions with your result. See worked planning examples and our calculation and correction process.
