Gratuity by Service
Method and scope
Traditional end-of-service gratuity for a full-time foreign worker covered by UAE federal private-sector labour rules, not a citizen pension. Requires at least one year of qualifying continuous service. Gratuity uses the final basic wage / 30: 21 days per year for the first five years and 30 days per year thereafter, with proportional fractions after qualifying. Enter service excluding unpaid absences. The two-year wage cap uses the total contractual monthly wage entered; it must be at least the basic wage. The same final basic wage is applied to all service. Nationals, domestic workers, DIFC/ADGM rules, part-time employment, alternative end-of-service savings schemes, disputes, deductions, leave pay and other final settlement items are excluded. Confirm applicable terms with the relevant authority; this is not a legal determination.
Try the starting example
Monthly basic salary (no allowances): AED 10,000; Monthly total contractual wage for two-year cap: AED 10,000; Qualifying continuous service (years, excluding unpaid absence): 5.
Estimated end-of-service gratuity: AED 35,000.00.
Compare one assumption at a time
Only qualifying service changes here; basic salary and total contractual wage stay fixed. The result is zero before the qualifying service threshold, and the accrual changes after five years subject to the cap. Use the method below to check whether this employment profile applies. These fictional scenarios use the starting inputs printed above, not your current entries in the interactive calculator.
| Qualifying continuous service (years, excluding unpaid absence) | Estimated end-of-service gratuity | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | AED 28,000.00 | One changed input |
| 5 | AED 35,000.00 | Starting example |
| 6 | AED 45,000.00 | One changed input |
Have you separated basic salary from allowances?
The gratuity calculation uses basic salary, with total contractual wage entered separately for its cap. Those inputs are not interchangeable. Use qualifying service excluding unpaid absence; the federal traditional full-time foreign-worker model does not cover every employment regime or alternative savings scheme.
